If you're here, you probably already know this is a common fail point for old trucks. I bought these soon after I bought my 1988 F150 because one cable was broken, and the other was hanging on by a thread. These are a perfect replacement, high quality and simple to install. I've had them for 5 years now on a heavily used truck and they show no signs of wear at all. My Ford is a beater truck and I can't tell you how many times I've let the tailgate slam down to be caught by these cables, and they still look brand new. Very fair price and 5 star item.

Ford pickup truck tailgate support cable
This Dorman 38507 tailgate support cable fit my 1991 Ford pickup perfectly. It took less than 10 minutes to replace and most of that time was spent finding my wrenches. I searched for it on Amazon after failing to find it on an auto parts website (multiple conflicting answers there) and was pleasantly surprised that Amazon had it. Very satisfied!

Good quality tailgate cable
I ordered this cable to replace a broken and rusted tailgate cable on my '95 F-150. This cable fit perfect and was very easy to install, only needed to remove one bolt. Cable is well made and the length was just right. Seems just slightly shorter (by only a couple of mm) then the original cable I still have on the other side of the tailgate, but I think that's due to the fact that the original cable has stretched over the years. I should have replaced both cables to begin with so I will probably just order another one so they both match. Overall good quality and I would recommend it if you need to replace your tailgate cables.

1989 Ford F 150 tail gate cables are perfect fit, match OEM exactly and were priced right. This part is no longer available from the manufacturer making alternate supply options such as this critical to keeping older vehicles that are otherwise in excellent shape functional. Measuer carefully from center of each attachment point to ensure you have the right cable.

Bought this to replace a worn out cable on a 1986 Ford Pickup. I replaced the broken cable in about 10 minutes and it has held up well since. I frequently load and unload an ATV in this particular truck and the cable has held up to that abuse. Good replacement for the money.
